CordBase vs Airtable or Notion connected to Discord

Written by the CordBase team. Competitor prices and features checked against their own sites; see sources below.

The short answer

Airtable and Notion are full workspaces: linked records, many views, forms, rich pages. CordBase can't compete on that and doesn't try. Neither has a first-party Discord bot, so using them from Discord means Zapier, Make, n8n or a third-party bot, plus accounts (and often paid seats) for anyone who edits. CordBase is narrower: the database lives behind slash commands, members need nothing but Discord, and you pay per server rather than per seat.

What Airtable and Notion do better

Almost everything about the database itself. Airtable has linked tables, rollups, many view types, forms and automations; its free plan includes 1,000 records per base and up to 5 editors, and Team starts at $20 per seat per month billed annually (Airtable pricing). Notion combines databases with documents and wikis; Plus is $10 per seat per month billed annually (Notion pricing). If your staff team already lives in one of them, keep it.

The Discord gap

Neither product ships its own Discord bot. Airtable connects through automation tools like Zapier, Make or n8n. For Notion, there are third-party bots such as NotiCord, which offers slash-command task creation and search, from $9 a month for one server (NotiCord pricing). Each bridge is one more thing to pay for and configure, and it usually parses messages rather than offering typed commands.

Seats are the other issue. A community of 300 people can't give everyone an Airtable seat, so in practice members submit data through a form or a bot and staff do the rest.

What CordBase does instead

CordBase is the database and the bot in one, and it's only for Discord. You build a table on the web, and members use /<table> add, query, update and leaderboard directly. They don't need accounts; permissions come from their Discord roles. Admins see everything in a web table and can export it (CSV or JSON on Pro).

What it lacks compared with Airtable or Notion: relations between tables, formulas, rich views, forms outside Discord, attachments, and any public API.

Choose Airtable / Notion if

  • Your data needs linked tables, formulas or rich views.
  • Your staff already work in Airtable or Notion every day.
  • The data is mostly edited by a small team on the web.

Choose CordBase if

  • Members edit the data from Discord, without accounts.
  • You don't want per-seat pricing or a chain of automations.
  • A focused table with typed columns covers what you track.

Questions

Does Airtable have a Discord bot?

Not a first-party one. Most setups connect Airtable to Discord with Zapier, Make or n8n.

Does Notion have a Discord integration?

Not an official bot. Third-party bots such as NotiCord connect Notion databases to Discord with slash commands and notifications.

Can CordBase link one table to another, like Airtable's linked records?

No. CordBase tables are independent. The closest thing is a member column, which links a row to a Discord user.
